Call for Papers
The East Asian Translation Pedagogy Advance (EATPA) network was founded in 2020 with a view to enhancing pedagogy within the field and sharing resources and expertise. Over the past few years, a series of activities have been held successfully, including numerous webinars delivered by colleagues in various countries, collaborative online international learning (COIL) activities, Translation Jams, and the launch of the Translation Pedagogy Resource Bank.
In celebration of our fifth anniversary, we are pleased to announce that our first in-person Symposium on East Asian translation pedagogy will be held at the University of Leeds on 27-28 June 2025. We are proud to announce our keynote speakers for the Symposium as: Prof. Nana Sato-Rossberg (SOAS University of London) and Dr Clara Chuan Yu (Hong Kong Baptist University).
The recent decade has witnessed unprecedented challenges for translation teaching and learning. The enhanced awareness of the Sustainability Development Goals, Covid-19 pandemic and rapid advances in translation technology, not least AI, have called for much-needed reflections on the current pedagogical practices. There is much scope for more conversations on how these developments have impacted the pedagogy of translation in relation to East Asian languages. Therefore, we invite translation teachers of East Asian languages to deliver paper presentations on the following or related themes:
- Accessibility and neuro-diversity in the translation classroom
- AI and technology and translation pedagogy
- Incorporating reference tools in the translation classroom
- Inter-institutional collaboration in translation pedagogy
- Language proficiency for translation classrooms
- Methods of translation feedback & translation evaluation criteria
- Multi-lingual translation classrooms
- Political ideology and translation pedagogy
- Teaching using fiction and non-fiction texts
- Theory and practice
Proposals can be either pedagogic research-based or pedagogic practice-based.
